For some it’s the most tender moment of the evening, to others a massive, YouTube worthy showpiece and for some the most dreaded and cringe worthy part of the night. Love it or hate it, you have to embrace it (and each other!) It’s that ‘wedding first dance’ moment!
The first rule of the first dance is that there are no rules. You can have whatever song or series of songs you want. It doesn’t have to be a ballad – we’ve had everything from Fatboy Slim to The Killers. Pick anything that you both like and feel comfortable with.
If you’re nervous then do a minute or two of dancing for your guests (and for your photographer to snap) and then get the guests to join in. Your bridesmaids, grooms, family and close friends can orchestrate this perfectly with a little prior arrangement.
You don’t even have to be able to dance! Just stand together on the dancefloor in close, warm conversation and smile a little. Your guests will cheer and applaud whether you can dance like a pro or just shuffle your two left feet.
As you’ll see from the pictures below we always make the first dance look great and what the pictures don’t show is the build up and atmosphere creation that goes into the number. Fortunately the brilliant Sally Wood was on hand to capture these images at Moxhull Hall and her work always encapsulates me. You can almost feel the love from the pictures.
We always talk through the first dance arrangements with couples when we meet for the consultation. Don’t let nerves ruin the moment as Dave Clarke has some great and original ideas to help ease the jitters.
