After 5 years of presenting on Heart 100.7 the time has come for me to take a broadcasting break and finally reclaim my weekends for myself. Dave Clarke on Heart is no more!
Over the last 6 months I have presented regular weekend shows with Breakfast/Drivetime cover as and when needed. It’s been fun working just weekends on the whole but frustratingly restrictive too. On weekdays I’ve been restricted to staying within an hour of Birmingham just in case the ‘Bat Phone’ rang. Weekends have been a blur of gig, broadcast, gig, broadcast & gig with no quality time whatsoever. Time for a change!
From January 1st I will become fully freelance and undertake broadcast work wherever offered, but I will have control of my own diary and be far less restricted. The entertainment business is being extended with the acquisition of our own PA system, lighting and effects and this is just one area I am looking forward to focusing more on in 2011. I’ve been a DJ since I was 15 and I’m committed to the continued evolution of the ‘mobile DJ’ (yuk! I hate that phrase) and I won’t stop until my service is the ultimate entertainment provider in the field.
I shall be looking to continue my journalism interests and will be blogging for Bridgestone UK again in 2011. As I’ve now climbed out of my ‘fur-lined rut’ I will be able to attend more motorbike events, tests, launches etc and this can only be a good thing. I shall also be pursuing my advanced motorcycle instructor/observer qualification as well as a new business project surrounding bikes (which is a little but shush at the mo but I will reveal all soon!)
Of course I shall also be enjoying a fair amount of time in the gym, riding my cycle and playing GT5 on the PS3 whilst Mrs C works for a while (God I hope she doesn’t read this – she thinks I’ll be doing the ironing and stacking the dishwasher).
All that remains is for me to wish you a happy and prosperous 2011 and thank you for lending me your ears over the last 13 years of broadcasting in and around Brum.
