What is it with reggae and Brummies? I’ve worked on radio all over the country and nowhere does UB40 get so much airtime than in Birmingham. I suppose it’s understandable given that the UB’s are from this neck of the woods but there is a real hunger for reggae on the road too.
Congratulations to Kelly & Anthony Palmer who tied the knot on Saturday at Ardencote Manor in Warwickshire. Kelly & Anthony are both native Brummies from Acocks Green and both told me of their passion for commmercial reggae. Chaka Demus & Pliers, Wayne Wonder, Shaggy, Gyptian, Serani & (a lot of) UB40 all featured with the bride, groom and their guests rubbing up and down like good uns!
Had I have had my camera with me then I’d have taken a picture of the scene during Red Red Wine. With a red ‘wash’ from my lights and red effects from my profile lamps, the room was bathed in – yes yoou’ve guessed it – red! It looked stunning and it’s definitely something I shall do again when playing the ’40.
