That ‘First Dance’ conundrum…

I can’t believe how long some of my clients spend deliberating over what song to choose for that first dance. I’m sure it causes more arguements that just about any other wedding decision. Of course some couples are far more flamboyant and want to turn the whole thing into a cabaret.

There’s actually been a big increase in the number of couples hiring dance instructors to help them perform choreographed routines at their wedding. Experts reckon a 30% increase in rehearsed dancing is due in part to the popularity of shows like Strictly Come Dancing – but also seeing other couples on YouTube. Some choreographed and rehearsed routines have as many as 12 million views online. It’s even said the average couple now spends around £250 on dance lessons and choreography for their big day. One of the most common requests is learning how to Moonwalk!

Wedding DJ at Highbury Hall in Birmingham

Tonight I have the pleasure of entertaining Loretta & Gareth and their guests as we celebrate their wedding at Highbury Hall in Moseley. As with all wedding DJs in Birmingham, being local for an event is always a pleasure especially at a venue as beautiful as this. With historical, stately splendour and rolling green lawns it’s hard to believe that you’re in the middle of Brum!

I’m hosting my lads’ school summer fair and it seems to be to their total dismay! Maybe when you’re 11 it’s not cool to have your Dad playing the tunes but you know what? I don’t care! A blushing bride and a big mate!

This is shocking and I have to say (in my experience as a wedding DJ) not entirely true. Apparently brides are becoming so nervous about their appearance ahead of their wedding day that they intentionally pick fat friends to accompany them up the aisle, according to research. One in three engaged women in the Midlands admitted that they would choose an overweight friend to be their bridesmaid in order to make them look comparatively slimmer. How bad is that?!

I don’t see much evidence of this but to be fair I’m not involved in the bridal party selection all that much! So I can’t help with chubby mates but if you need to hire a wedding DJ in Birmingham or The Midlands then I am quite useful

This is fun. I’m the Event Host in Solihull tonight for the TRA Tyre Industry Dinner & Awards 2010. It’s a ‘swinging sixties’ themed evening with Lulu, Dusty Springfield and Diana Ross providing the entertainment.

Up for a run, walk, jog or bimble? Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life happens in Stoneleigh Park, Nr Coventry tomorrow morning and I’m delighted to be your event host this year! However you cover the 5km and in whatever time it takes I shall be there to inspire you over the line and back across it again, so give me a wave.

Big love to you if you were at the Godiva Festival on Friday evening. HOW good were Hazel O’Connor and ABC?! What an 80′s party. But then again when it’s fuelled by sun, beers and good festival food, it’s always gonna be a winner!

I’m being sent to Coventry this weekend. Twice!

Tonight (2nd July 2010) I shall be the main stage host at The Godiva Festival, War Memorial Park, Coventry. The theme for tonight? It’s back to the 80′s and I’ll be introducing some absolute legends!

 Hazel O’Connor (backed by Coventry’s own Subterraneans), Kid Creole and the Coconuts, The Christians and Martin Fry from ABC are all on stage at the UK’s biggest free festival. Not only will be there be singing, dancing and live music but comedians and entertainers of local, national and international repute. The cost? It’s all FREE!! See you tonight. 

On Sunday morning I’ll be joining the ladies in pink for Cancer Research’s Race For Life at Stoneleigh Abbey near Coventry. Give me a wave as you cross the start/finish line and I’ll make sure I say hi on the mic.
