Busy, busy, busy!

Happy Bank Holiday weekend! I hope you’re managing to chillax a little and you’re not stuck in the car on the way to Weston-Super-Nightmare :(

It’s a busy one here at Clarkey towers. A 50th Birthday Party DJ in Birmingham last Saturday night, two radio shows and then I’m joining the wedding DJs in Solihull on Saturday night for Clare & James’ do. I know, work is good and I shouldn’t moan but I’m getting no quality motorbike time – and it’s summer! I guess I’ll have to console myself with a BBQ and a cheeky beer. Well it’s Bank Holiday and I’ve been stuck at work. Which is better than being stuck in a car on the way to…

The ULTIMATE proposal of marriage!

So wedding season is in full swing and Kel and I are meeting with clients to hear stories of love and romance as well as planning wedding playlists. We’ve just come back from drinks with Tony and Angela and I’m looking forward to being their wedding DJ at New Hall, Sutton Coldfield in July. I didn’t quite get round to asking about Tony’s proposal but Im guessing he was pipped to this one…

“An American man proposed to his girlfriend, by editing himself into her favourite film! Corey Goldfeder used borrowed equipment to digitally replace Michael J Fox’s face in ‘Back To The Future’ with his own, before hiring an audience for his local cinema and popping the question! He said: “With some careful splicing and voiceover work, I staged a conversation between Doc and Marty McFly – with my face – about whether it was time to propose. At the end of this conversation, the movie-me turned to face the camera and prompted the real me to propose.” Corey now hopes their engagement will be named the most romantic by voters for an online competition called the Ultimate Proposal Contest.”

I’m guessing they’ll win this one hands down!

I can’t help with digital editing equipment but I can help if you’re looking for wedding DJs in Birmingham or beyond! Click here to get in touch – oh and tell me about that romantic proposal too ;o)

A most unusual bubblewrap wedding dress!

As a wedding DJ I do get to see my fair share of beautiful women in white (ok, ivory or cream) but how about this for setting a trend?

Rachael Robinson, a 30-year-old primary school deputy headteacher, got married wearing a dress made of bubble wrap when she tied the knot with Duncan Turner.

What do you reckon? Would you rock this look?!

As well as not costing her anything, anytime she got nervous during the ceremony she could pop a few bubbles to release the tension!

The dress used up 13ft of the packing material and was put together last month by pupils and parents at her school for a fashion show featuring recyclable materials. It comes complete with a 3ft bubble wrap train and finished off with white foam packaging material and Haribo sweets. Aw, bless!

I can’t help with the bubblewrap but hire a DJ in Birmingham or beyond for an amazing wedding party by clicking here!

Race For Life 2010 at Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham

Just a quick word of thanks to all the girls who took part in Race For Life in Birmingham’s Cannon Hill Park this week. I was immensely proud to be the Event Host and Compere for the Birmingham events. To sum the ladies up as a sea of pink would probably suffice but I’ll go further; it was like Birmingham’s biggest hen do!

Whether you walked, jogged, ran or sponsored someone who did – thanks. You’re all stars! I’m got a bunch of pics on my camera so I’ll get these posted too. If you haven’t done Race For Life yet, you don’t know what you’re missing!

More like a nightclub than a wedding!!

Many congratulations to our Breakfast Show Producer at Heart 100.7, Kelly, who married PJ (off Big Brother 3!) yesterday. It was a fab day for all concerned and a damn good excuse for us all to have a knees up at Wroxall Abbey in Warwickshire.

I was the wedding DJ in the biggest marque I’ve ever seen and it was a great excuse to roll out the FULL nightclub sound and light show. I should point out that the residents of Wroxall didn’t enjoy the night so much. Apparently our bass could be heard over half a mile away. Whoops. Erm, sorry…

As far as weddings go this was JUST the sort of gig that cried out for 90′s dance, house, R&B and indie. The crowd were really up for it and I think the party went on a lot later than it should have.  If you were there – thanks for a great night!

I’ll be at Birtsmorton Court in Gloucestershire for the wedding of Ali & Lee next Friday then I have a 167th Birthday on Saturday night. Yes – I said 167th. All will be revealed… In the meantime if you’d like me to bring the party to your lot then contact me here.

Expensive business this getting married malarky…

Whilst preparing for my Heart 100.7 Afternoon Show today, I came across a very interesting wedding stat…

“Couples would prefer their guests to give them money rather than choose from a wedding list, a survey has found. Almost half of prospective spouses are happy to tell their guests that cash would be the ideal gift. Meanwhile 27% asked for vouchers to put towards paying for a honeymoon. Wedding lists were popular with just 29% of newlyweds.”

I know that getting married is a pricey business but the best is worth paying for. I suppose that a whip round in the name of a wedding gift is pretty useful though. When Kel and I got married we asked for vouchers to spend in a travel agent and holidayed on the proceeds for the next two years. Think I’ll get married again…

Dancing On Ice Live Tour 2010 (LG Arena Birmingham)

Well, what fun! On Friday night I took the guest-judge hot seat for the opening night in Birmingham of ‘Dancing On Ice – The Live Tour 2010′.  Despite being an Event Host in Birmingham I was still thrilled to sit alongside Biggins, Nicky, Karen and Kieron to lend my views to the contestants and pro skaters. Ok, so I’m a Wedding DJ, Broadcaster, Event Host etc and dancing isn’t really my thing but it was all in the name of fun and all my scores were high ones.

Me with the legend that is Torvill!

and the legend that is Dean!

Glitz, glamour and sequins don’t even come close! It is the campest affair but great fun to watch. The professional skaters were a wow and the celebs weren’t too bad either with Hayley Tammadon, Chris Fountain, Ray Quinn, Gaynor Faye and loads more all taking part.

Hayley did her ‘Jai Ho’ routine and it was a straight 6 for me. And what a lovely girl she is, too!

My lads met Hayley (and got very excited!)

As far as the panel were concerned I was looked after by Nicky, cried with laughter at Biggins, developed a man crush on Kieron and gawped at Karen’s sexy red heels!!!

God, this man is funny...

Lovely Karen Barber who wore the sexiest shoes I've ever seen!

Two of my fellow judges, Nicky and Kieron.

The best thing I’ve ever been asked? Kieron: “Have we played rugby together before?!” No, I was on the tour last year too but I’m gonna let you pretend that I played rugby at a high level!! ;o)

Back to work then and 40th Birthday Party and Wedding DJ committments are calling. Click here for information on booking Dave Clarke for your event.
