All work and no play…

All work and no play makes Dave a dull boy!

With a full weekend of being the wedding DJ in Birmingham and Warwickshire ahead and a week of Breakfast Show cover on Heart 100.7, I figured it was time for a spot of r’n'r… Clarkey style!

Last weekend it was off to Cadwell Park to enjoy relaxation in the only way I know. The reckless distruction of fossil fuels in the pursuit of happiness – or performance motorcycle riding! Yes, trackday season is here again and it was rude not to…

Ah that's better - speed!

I wasn’t on my own of course. As well as around 100 other bikes, Mrs C (or Kelly!) joined the fun too…

Not the way most women relax but that's my wife...

It's amazing how theraputic dragging body parts on the floor at nearly 80mph can be!

Many thanks to Alex James for his excellent photography.

I’ll see you on Friday night at the gorgeous Ettington Hall if you are a guest at the wedding of Zoe and Andy. It’s a mobile nightclub on Friday as the guys want loads of R’n'B and Dance. Fine by me seeing as I’m all relaxed now ;o)

A great venue for a 40th birthday party!

I’m just back from meeting with Juliet and Richard at Birmingham’s Hotel Du Vin. Juliet is celebrating the big 4-0h in April and I am delighted to be her 40th Birthday DJ in Birmingham for the evening. She’s asked for some cracking 80′s tunes and it’s gonnna be a large, loud and late bash!

I’ve done wedding entertainment at Hotel Du Vin before and I have to say that it is an excellent venue. ‘Pub Du Vin & Snug’ is cosy, traditional and stylish. It’s smaller than many hotel function rooms and that means it’s perfect for a more intimate gathering. The Snug is for those who prefer a quieter evening with a handy central bar to make drinking and dancing at the same time possible (and who said men can’t multitask!) Add to this the convenience of a city centre location and a late license that allows partying into the next morning, and this is a great venue to consider for your do.

On the subject of late entertainment, don’t forget that when you book us, you book us for the whole evening. I can party harder than you and I’ll gladly prove it! ;o) Click here to book Dave Clarke DJ for your special occasion.

Break a leg you say?!

Wedding season is about to kick off for us. I shall lead the ranks of the wedding DJs in Birmingham next weekend with Friday and Saturday night reception bookings. How do I prepare for this? Well the Health and Safety boxes are ticked, I’ve met the couples and music and planning is all done, so why not enjoy a litle petrol?!

I’ll be starting trackday season this weekend at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire where I’ll be doing my best to fly round the circuit on my Honda CBR600RR without bending it, or myself! There’ll be pics posted after the weekend so check back then. In the meantime wish me luck – or ‘break a leg’ as we say in showbiz… Actually I’ll just take the luck option. Can I DJ on crutches?! Hmmmm…

I’m available to DJ for you so hire a wedding DJ in Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield or beyond. click here to check availability and get a quote.

A 40th Birthday Party with mud wrestling…

On Saturday night I was the 40th Birthday Party DJ for Lisa, Dawn and Nicky at the Land Rover Social Club in Solihull. Huge room, great venue and a few hundred real party people demanding some rather fine 80′s and 90′s tunes. Now, in my humble opinion, any celebration that results in Animal Magnet’s ‘Welcome To The Monkey House’ being played to a bunch of pogo-ing 30-somethings in posh frocks, is always a good ‘do’ to be involved with! It was the mud shower that followed that was a little different…

This morning (Sunday 21st March) I took Kel and the boys to Mallory Park in Leicestershire to enjoy the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championships. Although I’m a mad keen biker I tend to do most of my two wheeled activities on tarmac and I have little experience of Motocross.

With the sun out and under mild blue skies the atmosphere couldn’t have been better. We got soooo close to the action that we did actually get a mud bath!

Look at the mud flying off these boys...

You can probably tell from George and Bill’s reaction to their mud bath that the action is VERY close.

...and the mud flying OVER these boys!

What struck me was how close you could get to the action in the paddocks.

Bill got invited to try a Kwak for size. A little too big, me thinks!

I'll bet Kwik-Fit couldn't do a clutch change this quick!

I shall do Motocross again for sure. The action is thrilling and you can get up close and personal to the racing. The kids stood agape at the derring-do of the (often very young) riders, airborne to the limit of their machines.

To get this high I'd be on a Britsh Airways flight...Look!

Clearing the trees...

This one has seriously made me consider putting the headphones down and becoming a sports snapper ;o)

So I’m a little biased but two-wheeled motorsports  are so much fun and the kids love a day out at the track. Chuck in a dodgy burger for lunch and an ice-cream chaser; and Bob’s yer Mother’s Brother! I understand that this is a new track at Mallory Park (for so long a bastion of road racing) and this event deserves to take off. Easy access through beautiful countryside, ample car parking, great vantage points and a quid for a cup of coffee. Add to this the family admission of £45 and it really is a win-win.

Right, off for a bath to wash the mud out of where my hair should be!

I think I’ve just found your dream job!

It’s 10 long years since Mrs C and I got married (and no – I wasn’t the wedding DJ for that one!). The distant memory of our honey moon and a holiday without kids, is a fondly cherished one. Look what I found whilst preparing my show for Heart fm this afternoon…

“An Irish company is looking to employ a ‘honeymoon tester’ – meaning it could be your job to lie on beaches, swim in infinity pools and sip champagne. And if that wasn’t good enough, the successful candidate will also get £18,000 for spending six months of the year in luxurious surroundings… and get to take their partner! The job’s offered by ‘Runaway Bride and Groom’ and you will have to report back with your impressions of the breaks each of which will last three to four weeks. Organisers say the free holidays will be to places like the Maldives or Zanzibar and include such ‘gruelling’ tasks as testing cocktails and jacuzzis. Candidates for the “Ultimate Job” must apply online by the end of this month.”

Where can I pick up an application form?! Yes I love providing quality wedding entertainment but I never get to go on the honeymoon… Hire a wedding DJ in the West Midlands by clicking here. Or invite me on honeymoon ;o)

Dancing On Ice is go, go, go…!

As I previously mentioned here I am delighted to have been asked back to the Ice Panel for Dancing On Ice Live at the LG Arena, Birmingham. I can now confirm that on Friday 30th April 2010 I will be the guest judge for the 7.30 performance. It will be great to see you there and I promise all my scores will be good ones!!

It’s a really busy weekend for me as this date comes on the eve of wedding entertainment. I will be the wedding DJ in Sutton Coldfield for Emma & Martin on Saturday then it’s straight up to Oulton Park for round 3 of the 2010 British Superbike calendar, where I shall be representing both Honda and Bridgestone.

Phew! I’ll need to get back to Heart fm for a rest… ;o)

For wedding DJ hire or event host & compere duties please get in touch here.

Searching for wedding DJs in Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield or Solihull? Find a romantic man like this first! I’ve think I’ve heard about THE most ingeneous proposal ever…

A man proposed to his wife in their local cinema by screening a home-made video of Lou Reed’s Perfect Day sung by her friends and family. Kerrie thought she was going to spend the evening watching Avatar. But her partner Bryan had arranged for the cinema to show a video with all her nearest and dearest singing lines from the Lou Reed classic. Bryan, who had made an excuse to go to the lavatory, reappeared at the front of the cinema to get down on one knee and pop the question with an engagement ring. The packed audience – who had been sitting in the dark disguised with 3-D glasses – got up to cheer, revealing themselves as 50 of Kerrie’s loved ones. Awwww!

Now we can’t organise your proposal but we are damn good with the wedding entertainment so click here to find out if I’m available on your big day.

Celebrities, sequins and erm, Jason Gardner?!

I delighted to announce that I’ve been invited to be a guest judge on the Dancing On Ice 2010 tour, at the LG Arena Birmingham!

Reckon I'll get pecs like this?!

On what’s shaping up to be a busy May bank holiday weekend I shall be taking my seat behind the panel and enjoying the show from the best seat in the house. Give me a wave if you’re going and I promise I’ll publish a bunch of pics here as soon as I can. Maybe even a little cheeky vodcast!

As a Compere and Event Host in the Midlands I’d be delighted to add my skills to your event. Click here to get in touch.

Who said you’re ever too old to be a DJ?!

Preparing for my Afternoon Show on Heart 100.7 look what I found! Looking to hire a DJ in Birmingham or The Midlands? Here’s an idea…

“A 69-year-old British granny has become the darling of the Paris party scene thanks to her impressive DJ skills. Ruth Flowers, says she first caught the DJ bug at a birthday disco for her grandson. From that moment she knew she wanted to spend her evenings behind the decks. She then set about learning how to DJ and even started performing sets where she mixes techno with the likes of Queen and the Rolling Stones… And amazingly she has become a hit in France where – appearing under the name Mamy Rock – she has performed at nightclubs from Cannes to Paris. Speaking of her new found career Ruth said: “I’d rather sign a contract with a record company than to sign up for the nursing home.”

Get in touch here if you’re looking for your perfect DJ. I can’t promise you ‘Mamy Rock’, although I do have new respect for 69 year olds!

A bunch of shiny cars and some charitable dosh!!

Last Saturday I joined colleagues from Heart 100.7 to scrub cars for charity. Yes, some bright spark thought it would be a good idea to get up early on a cold, damp Saturday morning in Birmingham and wash cars!!

There's only pics of the kids helping out and none of me actually scrubbing. I did, though. Honest!

Now being a wedding DJ is hardly a physical strain, nor is being a compere or event host; in my Presenter role at Heart I never even have to make my own tea! Imagine the look on my face as car after car rocked up onto the Heart car park for me to rub and scrub.

Ed James and me drumming up business!

Ed James, Steve Denyer & Matt Jarvis all joined in, as did members of the Sales and Programming team. Together we managed to raise nearly £250 for our Have A Heart charity and had a damn good laugh doing it. If you did turn up and let us do an average job of cleaning, thanks very much. Most of the customers had a good laugh with us and I think this underlines our entertainment skills even if the washing ones were none existant!!
